About this item
- Topology Diaphragm: The “Topology Diaphragm” or “Topology Driver” refers to the diaphragm with a special Nano particle coating applied to its surface. The distribution of the coating has distinct geometric patterns. By carefully controlling the diaphragm surface structure you can yield different results in acoustic performance to a degree previously unobtainable.
- The Ideal Dynamic Driver: The Topology diaphragm structure used by HIFIMAN greatly reduces the uncontrolled diaphragm distortions, enabling the operational performance of dynamic IEM’s to an approach to an ever superior, trend towards perfect wave control.
- Smooth flowing contours ergonomically designed to fit you and your ears perfectly: With our unique Nanotech “Topology Driver”, the technology inside an Aluminium Alloy exterior, with a visual purity that emulates its sonic clarity
- Pure Audio Quality: In sound, quality and comfort, RE800 silver is beautifully appointed. With a rich, silky smooth acoustic sound signature, the RE800 Silver has all the detail and subtlety you would expect from HIFIMAN. Yet delivers all the exciting dynamics that takes you front and center.
- The RE800 Silver offers a beautiful blend of structural rigidity, resonance and musicality

They are enjoyable, if not a little analytical, but I really like them for portable use with a good DAP. If I had paid $ 200 for these I'd be unhappy with the cheesy cabling (which is fixed) and pretty thin. Even my Kato's have great cable that was replaceable and of better quality. If I'd paid the original $ 600 for them, I'd be really upset and would have sent them back. I think the DAP has a little to do with these sounding pretty good; my iBasso DX160 and my Fiio M11 both make these sound pretty darn good.
I will say that the sound stage on these is very, very good. It's almost 3 dimensional, and that really adds to the enjoyment of using them. I like the small size, they almost disappear when in the ear, yet have a big sound. But I'm sure that the wire will get pulled out of one or both of the modules, eventually.
Overall, for $ 100 you can't go wrong. Even at $ 200 they are worth it, if your willing to put up with a cable you can't replace.
A couple caveats might explain why these never caught on and are now on a fire sale:
1. No detachable cable. At the original price this would be a deal breaker but at this price, I think it's much less of a concern as long as you aren't too hard on cables and can get a reasonable amount of use out of them before they eventually break.
2. Tuning. These are not tuned to the typical Harman target. They are neutral bright. I am a bit of a treble-head and am not offended by the moderate brightness but I found I can largely eliminate the mild sibilance by EQing down the upper midrange and treble with a -3 dB shelf.
3. Amplification. I have found these scale significantly with a quality amp. They sound good without one but are sublime on my Chord Mojo 2. I suspect this is because of their relatively high impedance (60 ohms) which makes them more difficult to drive. IMO, you should think of these as $600 IEMs which have the technical chops to showcase good equipment.
I only have a couple days on these and will report back if anything changes in my opinion but right now, I'd say they are a no-brainer at the 83% off price.

I graduated from RE600 which have also served me well for full 4 years with no problem. RE800 are more full and sound more even without any tinny highs. I will look after them and will get years of good service.I rarely take them outside and enjoy high definition FLAC files hooked up to my Ibasso dx160 and 150 for home listening . Superb.

Non avevo mai sentito bassi così profondi e precisi in una IEM non credevo alle mie orecchie.
Allora come mai queste strane affermazioni ?
